Judy generates volunteer participation, earns Points of Light award

Situation:
Ricoh Company, Ltd. had a global objective of maintaining corporate citizenship. The first step? Making sure Judy Asman was on post to produce high-quality, attention-grabbing events for its OC manufacturing office.

Challenges:
Among the 1,300 employees, there were language barriers, with cultures that included Vietnamese, Latino and Japanese. The success of the events would depend on their volunteer participation. The biggest challenge would be engaging a large audience.

Solution:
Judy recruited a community service team that reflected the employee demographics. The team members, communicated with company peers in-language, helping to generate 10 to 15% total participation by employees, with more help from their friends and family members.

Results:
The cumulative efforts of events that included an elementary school beautification and a coastal cleanup effort, resulted in regional, national and international media coverage and a citation by the venerable Points of Light & Hands On Network. This enhanced brand awareness locally and nationally.

Judy encourages listener participation

Alternative music stars Love and Rockets, at the height of their commercial fame, partnered with MTV to find the perfect artwork for a tour poster.

The band's management and record company initiated a national contest involving college radio listeners to participate.

As the music director and outgoing promotions director, Judy helped desgn and execute on-air promtions and engaging audience participation.

A KUSF listener helped the station win the contest. Judy and team worked with the record company and venue to produce a subsequent benefit concert featuring Love and Rockets, which aired on MTV's "120 Minutes."

Judy inspires teens to read beat poetry

Situation:
For its 5th annual event, the Hispanic Cultural Festival wanted to appeal to the youth. First step? Hire Judy to organize a beat poetry contest and live performance.

Challenge:
Since the event would take place in October, Judy needed to engage local high schools to encourage student participation. At the same time, her team needed to plan a finalist event.

Solution:
Judy worked with a volunteer team, consisting of educators and community representatives. She delegated different schools to each of them. Together, they invited poetry submissions from the local high schools, while planning the live poetry reading and the pre-event reception.

Results:
The event was met with overwhelming response, generating about 250 attendees, and judging and public speeches by local officials and professional journalists.
